pam for Transformation and Change

Criminal and Social Justice is all about making change for the better.  Thats why we love working within those sectors and using pam’s capability to equip practitioners to get their job done well. This is a world that is going through lots of change itself, so we journeythought it might be timely to reinforce pam’s capabilities for change.  Of course pam is also used for lots of day to day work and strategic management too, but lets focus on the change aspect for now.

Probation is an area that’s very important to us within that justice world.  We’ve supported it for almost 6 years and continue to do so during what is the most extreme change they’ve seen in a history of over 100 years.   We’ve seen our probation customers through many transformations over the years, probation boards, mergers, the transition into trusts, exits, and most recently the Community Rehabilitation Company (CRC) start ups.  Not only have we been a valuable resource through these huge organisational transformations, we’ve enabled agencies to work better together at a large scale internal level on the biggest merger in probation history, right through to small team and individual work.

Our work with police is not that different, as most of you will know from the big headlines in recent months, it is going through intense changes too. pam is being used across a range of initiatives across the board, the common theme of course being collaboration and structured working that goes far beyond generic tasking, discussions and document sharing.

I’ve had the pleasure of catching up with Simon Cherry from West Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU).  ROCU is one of the main policing units focused on Serious Organised Crime.  It’s an area pam is increasingly being seen as the platform of choice for a range of initiatives because of the versatile functionality and security capabilities.   He’s currently using pam to enable positive change and building ROCU capability from across the regions police forces. Simon said part of the need for a system like pam is that it gets everything in to one place, and we can plan everything more effectively. Before, information was being stored in different shared drives and often just someone’s head, which was inefficient. Those are issues pam has helped us to address in a big way”. You’ll be hearing more about my conversation with Simon and the work going on at the ROCU later this month.

Alongside probation and policing, our involvement in local authority has also helped to bring about the kind of change that’s demanded by the budgets that public sector organisations now find themselves restricted to. You might remember the Municipal Journal’s article on pam and Lewes District Council, you can find that here.
