Great debate on Guardian web chat

Our CEO Mark Darby took part in a live online chat about the future of the probation service in the light of Justice minister Chris Grayling’s consultation paper, Transforming Rehabilitation.

You can find the web chat here…

As usual with these web chats, the standard of debate was very high, and it was also respectful, given the very differing standpoints of the contributors, and the passionate feelings they have about the service.

Mark signed off his contribution to the debate with these words.

Mark wrote: “Let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water, or label all private sector contribution as a bad thing. Alliantist is a small private sector provider with a social purpose and we are evidence of how public, private can work together when well equipped and share the same goals.”

Our experience tells us that public/private partnerships can deliver better outcomes for public services, when the relationships are well-managed and all the stakeholders have the right tools for multi-agency initiatives.

Have a read of the debate, which had 240 postings. It shows that the way ahead will be complicated, but we believe better outcomes are a real possibility.
