Delivering social justice – unlocking local leadership

I am proud to be part of a task force led by Iain Duncan Smith which focuses on social justice.  The first report from that task force has just been published and it’s here: Delivering Social Justice – Unlocking Local Leadership.  The report follows a 2 day event at Windsor Castle earlier in the Summer.  I was participating with two hats on, firstly as the author of the book, Alliance Brand, as well as leading the organisation behind pam, Alliantist, that is already responsible for helping justice agencies work better together, coming initially from a criminal justice heritage.

Many of the themes reinforced that partnering is really at the heart of a new emerging paradigm.  It’s one where strong leaders recognise the need to act differently for how public services are delivered and work in close collaboration on integrated service design as well as the delivery.   I spoke along similar lines at a recent conference about multi agency working, which is summarised here.

The report brings alive the opportunities for local authority leaders to change the nature of their organisation’s role to effectively commission and coordinate rather than deliver local services in future.  Along with the increasing importance of the health commissioner, and police and crime commissioner role, it should lead to a tightly integrated set of positive community outcomes.  And in addition all public investment should be optimised.  The report also highlights the importance of sharing information and working with technology for the future (I’m pleased with that given our investments in pam and being first with the pan govt accredited IL3 platform)

We earned our reputation in criminal justice and have been evolving towards a wider social justice arena, working with forward thinking leaders like Jenny Rowlands at Lewes District Council on its change agenda.  Jenny said “pam is at the heart of our One District, One Council vision, bringing us closer to the communities we serve.”

The report publication is great timing as we are just about to start offering pam into Local Authorities, Health, Education, Fire Services and other agencies for initiatives such as:

  • Transformational change and new ways of working
  • Commissioning and co-commissioning across the whole lifecycle
  • Multi-agency working on sensitive subjects and cross agency operations up to restricted IL3 security
  • Governance, leadership and collaboration for Education (in conjunction with our One Team Advisory partners)

As such we are very excited at how we can help even more agencies change for the better and enjoy new ways of working as they aim to deliver more for less.
